SES Medal Symposium in Memory of A. J. M. Spencer, FRS

Professor A.J.M. Spencer FRS, passed away on the 25th January 2008. He is the recipient of Society of Engineering Science Medal for 2008 and this will be awarded posthumously at the SES Meeting in October 2008. Five Memorial Sessions are planned to honor the memory and contributions of Professor A.J.M. Spencer. The talks will be given by friends, colleagues and former students of Professor Spencer from the USA, Canada and Europe. The topics will cover theory of invariants, finite elasticity, mechanics of fiber reinforced materials, mechanics of granular media and theory of laminated plates, all of which were subject areas to which professor Spencer has made seminal research contributions.
