Rate Effects in the Response of MEMS and Thin Films

This symposium aims at creating a forum for researchers with interest in the study of the response of small material volumes in the form of ultra thin films, nanowires, nanorods, nanotubes, microtubules, MEMS devices, organic-inorganic interfaces, biological structures, etc. Emphasis is placed on understanding their response as a function of loading rate. Papers dealing with loading over any part of the loading regime, from creep to dynamic loading, where loading rate effects are important, are solicited. Experimental methods, potentially combined with analytical and modeling techniques, including but not limited to electron microscopy and scanning probe microscopy based methods, near field optical microscopy techniques, MEMS-based micromanipulation and nanomechanical characterization, full-field nanoscale methods, etc, are of relevance.
